John’s career in the property world began at the age of 10, holding the tape measure for his father measuring up houses to put on the market in his family estate agency, and by 18 he had purchased his first property deal.
After taking over the family business and trebling its turnover in three years, John sold the agency at 24 to concentrate on property development full time.
At just 25 years of age, John also became one of the youngest directors of a football league club; when joining Cambridge United FC, where he stayed for 18 years. John and his business partners purchased Auction House, based in 2009, which was grown significantly before selling the shares in 2018.
John is a director and shareholder of numerous estate agencies including Fine and Country Norfolk, property management companies and financial service providers which provides an all-encompassing understanding of the property world.
With a rental portfolio similar to many investors through his property companies, John’s experience is vast; from buying traditional houses, hotels and large scheme developments.
One of the latest developments in John’s portfolio is The Winerack on Ipswich Waterfront – a £27 million construction of 150 new apartments arranged over four unique buildings.
When development work began in January 2018, the site was a semi-constructed relic of the recession which had stood untouched since 2009. By December 2019 the project was completed and was recognised at the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors’ Social Impact Awards 2020.

John also shares his knowledge and opinions in the media, appearing regularly on Property TV in a variety of shows and expert panels.
With a strong public profile, John is frequently invited to speak at functions, seminars, and national shows such as the National Landlord Investment Shows.
John’s most recent engagements include the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce business meeting, The Developers Network and auctioneering at the Conservative Dinner.

John’s acumen, professional contacts and finely tuned skillset makes him an incredibly valuable joint venture partner and property development consultant.
Always keen to advise and guide less experienced developers and investors, John consults with other property professionals on a one-to-one basis, helping them achieve their full potential and maximise the success of their current and future deals.
John’s passion for supporting other property professionals led to the launch of the John Howard Joint Venture fund, which offers full funding for property purchases and developments alongside crucial insights and direction from John and his team for the duration of the project.
